Cardrona Mountain Carting
Cardrona Alpine Resort is the only place in New Zealand where you can experience mountain carting — a true summer bucket-list adventure. This gravity-fuelled experience combines adrenaline, fresh alpine air, and incredible mountain scenery, making it a must-do activity for visitors to the region.
Ride New Zealand’s only mountain carts and explore the mountain your way. With three purpose-built downhill tracks to choose from, you can take it easy and soak up the views or pick up the pace and race your friends, mastering smooth drifts around sweeping bends. After each run, hop back on the lift and head to the top for another lap. No prior carting experience is required — just a sense of adventure and a love of fun.
Carting sessions last approximately two hours and offer plenty of time to explore different trails. The experience is suitable for a wide range of ages, making it a great option for families, friends, and adventure seekers alike. Food and beverage facilities are available on-site, so you can relax and refuel before or after your session.
Children must be at least 8 years old and 100cm tall to ride their own cart. Younger or shorter children can ride tandem with a responsible adult, with a “carting buddy” rate applying in some cases. The maximum combined weight per cart is 110kg, and children under 12 years must mountain cart with an adult. When booking, guests should select their cart based on height.
All safety equipment is provided, including overalls, a full-face helmet, and gloves. Covered footwear is required, and warm clothing layers are recommended due to changing alpine conditions. All riders must watch a safety briefing video and sign a waiver prior to their session. Bookings are strongly recommended and subject to availability, with lift operations dependent on weather. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled session.
