The experience

Experience one of Queenstown’s most scenic adventures with the Walter Peak Horse Trek and TSS Earnslaw Cruise. This unforgettable journey combines the charm of a vintage steamship cruise with a gentle horse trek through the breathtaking landscapes of Queenstown’s high country.

Your day begins aboard the iconic TSS Earnslaw, New Zealand’s famous vintage steamship. Cruise across the stunning Lake Whakatipu, soaking in panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, glistening water, and untouched countryside as you make your way to Walter Peak High Country Farm.

Upon arrival, meet your experienced local guide and your horse for the Walter Peak Horse Trek. No previous riding experience is needed, making this the perfect adventure for families, first-time riders, or anyone wanting to slow down and enjoy Queenstown’s beauty at a relaxed pace. The horses are calm and well-trained, offering a safe and easy introduction to trekking on horseback.

The trek takes you across rolling farmland, through native bush, and up to a scenic lookout point where you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Lake Whakatipu and the surrounding Remarkables mountain range. This spot provides excellent photo opportunities and a chance to appreciate the vast, unspoiled wilderness of the region.

After your Walter Peak Horse Trek, head to the charming Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant for a relaxing morning or afternoon tea. Sit back with a selection of freshly baked treats, coffee, and tea while admiring the beautifully landscaped gardens. If time allows, stroll through the grounds and meet the farm’s friendly animals, including sheep, deer, alpacas, and Highland cattle.

Finally, board the TSS Earnslaw once again for a leisurely return cruise to Queenstown, wrapping up your day of alpine serenity and high country charm.

This experience is ideal for those wanting to combine light adventure with scenic beauty, all while enjoying a quintessential New Zealand high country experience.
